Blogging...what does it mean? These days it has such a wide definition that practically anything is blogging, is Instagram blogging? Is Tweeting regularly a form of blog? All of these channels provide an interested audience with a web based log of our lives meaning that basically anyone is a 'blogger' these days. I prefer to think of the general term as one who actually runs their own site such as this one and regularly adds content. A log of my life, however, this is not (that's what vlogging is for!). That leaves me with the question, is that something you want more of on here?
This blog always has been a fashion focussed blog and I really enjoy putting the odd beauty and fitness post on here too and that really is what I love about it - this is MY space to do what I WANT. Haters gonna hate, as they say, but don't let anyone tell you what you should or should not be doing with your blog. There is a lot of criticism out there sometimes of larger Youtubers and bloggers who now adhere to only 'luxury' items and forget their high street past, now, I have no problem with this, it is their choice to do so and ultimately you can just switch off if it's not to your taste - there are a lot of us out there to choose from - so why give the hate? I get it though. I sometimes feel the same way, a little disappointed that my favourite blogger I followed for years no longer puts out the content I like but it is my choice to move on and I wouldn't dream of ever giving them negativity because when you run a business you make choices about your target audience and sometimes that changes.
I see a lot of talk about putting out someone's candle not making yours brighter and other such sayings but is this attitude finally changing? I am yet to see it and whilst Youtube and Twitter allow trolls and hateful comments to continue, it's just not going to.
This is becoming slightly negative isn't it? I didn't mean it to be. I guess today I have been reflecting a bit; I've been stressing slightly on unfollows on Instagram and getting sponsored content 'just' right on top of my 9-5 and yeah, it gets me down at times. So I took a bath, caught up on some work and sat down to right this post. Who cares if I still need to hoover?
The point where blogging becomes stressful and it's not your full time job is the time when you need to make a choice about whether to continue, cut back or stop altogether. For me the choice has always been cut back (which is sometimes why you don't see much content on here from time to time) but if it becomes a constant stress in your life then you should evaluate this choice. At the end of the day just don't beat yourself up for missing a week and also don't EVER forget that comparison is the thief of joy.
It's an irony really isn't it? That our generation scour blogs and Instagram for fashion inspiration and to make ourselves feel better by wearing fashionable clothes and using luxurious beauty products, but what really happens is that we start to compare ourselves to the people we're admiring - why do they have more followers, why are they so much thinner, gosh their hair is so thick and beautiful. This is something I worry about my future children encountering and how do we get the balance right? I'm going to put it out there - celebrating obesity is not the answer either, it needs to be the right message that says 'celebrate all body types but be healthy.' The same goes the other way, we should not be using models with eating disorders on our catwalks but also remember that some people struggle to gain weight. It's a difficult line to walk and we're not going to find the answer any time soon.
Anyway, this is a bit of a jumble of thoughts I'm afraid, I was in that kind of mood and it's just what I wanted to write. I hope it all makes sense. Hope you like the outfit too!
